I'm sure all of you have heard of white dandelion, a beautiful flower whose seeds are blown for wishes. I myself have a different name for them, I call them the "inspirational flower." You'll find out why.
Earlier this semester, my classmates and I were asked to make up stories that reflect our lives to this point for a class project. Truth be told I can be creative at times, but not in making up stories. I can tell a toddler a story but for a class presentation? Hmmm... I am not too sure my skills are that good, yet.
I was struggling with this project for a few days, trying to think of some creative ways to express myself (that's one of the requirements of the project: the story has to be "outside the box" and still reflects me and my life).
Then, my mind (thank Goodness for my mind, it helps me out a lot ;-)) ran through my memories and stopped at a story of a dandelion I read when I was a little girl from one of the comic series (yes, I was a nerd and I still am one).
At the time, it was just a little story that did not reflect much about its meaning or anything. However, it stayed in my mind for all these years, which I believe it is for a reason.
After a few hours gathering thoughts, I was able to incorporate my life story together with that story of a flower, and here it goes:
"In the outskirt of the White Forest, there lies a beautiful dandelion field where every flower is either related or very closed to each other. Lily is a seed on one of the most beautiful flower. She has a mind of her own; however. Every single seed in the field has heard about how he/she will have to leave his/her mother, father, grandparents, and entire family, to fly away when the time is right. Lily doesn't believe that. She is not the youngest or the oldest in the family, but she can be considered the most special one for her way of thinking. Then how come she has to leave? She loves her family and the White Forest too much, she will stay.
"You have to go," said Lily's mother, "without leaving me you will become a dead seed. You will not get to see the world that I saw and you will waste your life."
"But I don't want to, Mom. Staying here I will be happy, and I get to be with you."
Her mom didn't respond, but she knows that most dandelion seeds do not have that luxurious choice of going or staying, and that Lily will leave, whether she wants to or not.
The time finally comes, everyone is leaving one by one, Lily gets scared. "I don't want to leave you, Mom," she cries, "can I stay?" "You are my special girl, Lily, and I am sure you will be just fine. I love you."
Lily shut her eyes when she felt the wind blowing her up to the sky to join her brothers, sisters, and friends. After a while, she finally gathered all her courage to opened her eyes and look down. She was amazed.
For the first time she saw her "home" from a different point of view, for the first time she gets to see the entire forest and beyond, and for the first time, she understands why her mother said it would be a waste not to get to see the world.
As she saying goodbye to her family, she let herself go with the wind. Her new journey of life has begun, and she knew she would try her best to make it as beautiful as her mother's. In the mean time, it is time for her to enjoy what the world has to offer."
So that went my story. I am somewhat like Lily, stubborn at first but now I have come to realize that everything is for my own benefit. I get to see the world for myself, and even though compared to the world, I am just as tiny as a little dandelion seed, I learn lessons from life everyday. Who would have known a little seed on a flower can be that inspirational?
I have not found my own field to land on, that means I am still flying. My journey still goes on and I know it will be meaningful if I make the best out it.
