All about Me

I think it is about time for me to talk to you a little about myself. I just want you, my blog readers, to know "who" I really am. I also want to write this so that whenever I look back and read this entry, I will never forget who I am (or was) today.

1. I was born  in Vietnam, the most beautiful place on earth (to me, that is), on a cold winter night almost 22 years ago. Coming to America at 16 was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. Growing up with family and coming out to the world, I have learn both to keep the valuable traditions while being open to new things. I am absolutely happy with what I have achieved until now, but I am still trying everyday to make my life even more meaningful because I know nothing can fill the biggest room we live in, room for improvements.

2. I am currently a "super-senior" at the University of Central Oklahoma pursuing two bachelor's degrees, one in Finance and the other in Marketing. I will be graduating in May, very excited to finally get out of school, but at the same time I know I would miss it so much. My closest academic goal is to graduate with the Highest Honor. Eventually I am hoping to land a good job.

3. My first and foremost passion is the love for my family. I am extremely lucky. We have been through many ups and downs, and of course it is not always rainbow and sunshines, but at the end, is it the love we have for each other that matters, and everything seems to be okay. Living away from them has taught me a lot. This past 5 years and 3 months have helped me treasure everything I have. I cannot thank them enough for the support and unconditional love they have for me through it all. Home will always be where the biggest part my heart is.

4. I live with my heart. Therefore, relationships with others are most important to me. Next to my family, of course, come my friends. If you read my "Distance" entry, you would know that I believe there are three types of friends, and I do have all three. I value friendships because I know how hard it is to find true friends who can stick with me for the rest of time, no matter how imperfect I am. Friends are my strength, and I sure hope I can be the strength they need.

5. I truly believe in the miracle of smiling. I love smiling and seeing people's smiles. They light up even my darkest days, and for that I am thankful.

6. I do not like people who don't have the courage to come and say things to my face. I also dislike dishonesty and people who hold grudges. It bugs me how much hatred can someone have. Life is too short to live everyday with a heart full of bad memories from the past... I personally believe ones should let go before moving on to a better place in life.

7. I am a sensitive person. I can cry very easily from watching a good movie, listening to the right song at the right moment, reading meaningful things, or just from having too much thoughts in my mind. Weird right? I know. But that's probably how I this blog was created, all from my heart. If I did not have the sensitivity and the feelings, I could have never write anything like what I have been doing.

8. I love traveling!!! I try to do it as often and as much as I can, but a lot of times finance doesn't allow me to go all out. I hope that soon enough, when I have a good job and making the money I need, I will travel as much as I can. Throughout the short 21 years of my life, I have lived in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam most of my life; Moscow and several (now) countries of the USSR when I was little; then Poteau and Edmond of the Oklahoma until now. I have been to many places, including about two third of Vietnam (road trips mostly so it's great!), US's most famous places (Hawaii, New York, D.C., Florida, Vegas, California, etc..), and many more. But that's nothing compare to how large the world is, so that's my plan... Travel as much as I can to the most beautiful places. I only get one life to live, might as well live it so that I won't have to regret.

In the map above, the red parts indicate where I have lived. The blue ones show where I have been, and the green ones are where I want to go the most. That doesn't mean I have no interest in the rest of the world. I just feel it would be ridiculous if I make the whole world map green.

9. Speaking of green. it is my favorite color. Simply because it makes me happy. I smile every time I see it, and like I said, I love to smile, so anything that makes me smile, I will love (well, most of them anyway)! :)

According to some research, this is what they found out about the people whose favorite color is green:

Green
What it represents: Here is the heart of the matter: green is the color of love. (It’s no coincidence that we make our money in the same color...) Green is the color of life and abundance — leaves, grass, plants — it’s all about growing, expanding, and living. So why don’t we give ferns instead of roses on Valentine’s Day? Because green is about expansive, humanistic love and acceptance, not bodice-ripping romance. What’s more, green is a nice-person color, a “do-gooder, be-gooder” kind of color. This person has a warm heart. Passion is probably in there somewhere, buried under their integrity and honor.

Understanding people who love it: If you love green, you put the greater good before your own good — but try a little selfish behavior once in a while.
                                                                                                  (According to Yahoo!)

10. I was born under the sign of Sagittarius and was said to have "restless energy and the need for personal independence..." which is true most of the time. I'm also said to be the most outgoing one because of my nature, well... that's just somewhat true. I try to be good friends with everyone. However, like I said, I am nowhere near perfect, so of course some people like me and some people don't, which is totally understandable. I am trying my best everyday to be a better person though, so I guess it is the effort that counts. I can also be very anti-social at times, especially when some things happen and I need a little time to gather my thoughts. At those times, you can probably find me in my room at the corner thinking to myself... But it doesn't last long. I cannot live without other people. Therefore, soon enough I would have to come outside and go look for the happy smiles of others so that I can smile again. Even though my times alone are mostly the saddest times, those are the times when I can concentrate and have the deepest feelings about life and everything around me, which result in good thoughts. That simply means bad moments can be good in some way, at least to me.

11. My favorite past-time activities include karaoke, board games, movies, dancing, and just being around friends.
I love singing, simply because I know that's pretty much the only way I can torture people without them getting me back ;).
My favorite boardgames include cranium, trivia pursuit, smart ass, 20 questions, charades, guess it, pass the popcorn, buzz word, and many many more.
I love all types of movies, especially comedy and romance. A little adventurous and actions would not hurt anyone either. I am in love with Disney Classics as well as most of the new cartoons, they are just too good.
I love to go out with friends and be myself. :)
Or just stay in and talk, I love those times too... Nothing can compare to good conversations between closed friends. I love them!

12. I am totally a dog person, especially puppies. I would love to have a Cumberland Sheepdog, or a mix of any pretty big dog with a Collie, or just a black and while Collie would be more than enough, even though I am not planning to have a sheep farm.

I am not a cat person. I can stand them and all, but probably because of the fact that I was bitten by a wild one when I was younger and had to get shots for 2 weeks straight... Not a good experience with them. I also think they are uncontrollable, unlike dogs. Don't get me wrong, I do not dislike them, I just prefer dogs :).

13. I love food! I mean, who doesn't, right? That's also the reason why I miss home so much. Food is something that never ceases to amaze me. I also love learning how to cook new things, even though I wish I had more time to devote into it. In the mean time, I still try to cook as much as I can, and pretty happy with the results so far.
I would try almost everything, except when too much cheese or butter is involved. And I don't drink milk, except soy milk. Is that weird?

13 is actually one of my lucky numbers, so I am just going to stop right here. I might add on to this blog as we go along... I think this much information is enough for anyone to digest at once. Well, it has been great talking about myself. But let me know a little bit about you as well, because I am very much interested!! :)

Green is no doubt one of the most appealing and refreshing colors. But green background and orange text color is not a good combination for usability of a webpage, don't you think?

I like your writing and your thinking tho, so try to read the entire entry with those colors is a little challenge. :P

Thank you for changing the text and background color. It's much better for the eyes now ;). Looking forward to your next entry, very thoughtful.
